Animal Care & Control Department

The Animal Care & Control Division responds to the greatest amount of service requests than any other division within the City of Victorville with the exception of both the Fire and Police Departments.

Response was provided to approximately 4,300 service requests during normal business hours and another 1,500 - 2,000 requests after hours/weekends/holidays in 2005/2006. Our main goals are:

  • Enforce State and local laws and ordinances that pertain to the care and control of animals
  • Patrol the City to provide pro-active animal control services
  • Transport and/or dispose of sick and injured/deceased animals as necessary
  • Investigate vicious dogs, dog bites, inhumane treatment and barking dogs

In addition to our animal related duties, we are responsible for enforcing the Victorville Municipal Code as it pertains to illegal parking of vehicles, i.e., recreational vehicles, commercial vehicles, storage, as well as California Vehicle Code parking violations.

Why have animal care and control within the City?
California Heath and Safety Code 121690 mandates that the City of Victorville enforce licensing and rabies vaccinations for all dogs older than four months. This code combined with the fact that San Bernardino County is a rabies county mandates that the City of Victorville provide animal control services to the community. The only feasible method that the City has of ensuring animals have been vaccinated against rabies is to require licenses.
