Animal Care & Control Division

The Animal Care & Control Division responds to the greatest amount of service requests than any other division within the City of Victorville with the exception of both the Fire and Police Departments.

Each year, Animal Control Officers run between 7,000 and 8,000 calls ranging from relatively minor code violations to felony animal cruelty cases.

Animal Control Officers are authorized to investigate possible animal related law violations and take appropriate enforcement action. In some cases, our officers may promote voluntary compliance by educating owners about their animal care responsibilities; other situations may warrant administrative action and/or civil and criminal prosecution. Additionally, our officers rescue animals that are stray, sick or injured, abused, abandoned or just lost.

If you are aware of a situation that you believe may harm or jeopardize animal welfare (such as animal abuse, neglect, injury or endangerment) or public health or safety (such as a bite, attack or harassment of a person by and animal) or that may otherwise be in violation of an animal related law, we urge you to contact our office and report what you have seen or heard. A dispatcher will take a report and forward the information to an Animal Control Officer for investigation. Please call us at (760) 955-5089 or contact us by email.

Why have animal care and control within the City?
California Heath and Safety Code section 121690 mandates that the City of Victorville enforce licensing and rabies vaccinations for all dogs older than four months. This code combined with the fact that San Bernardino County is a rabies county mandates that the City of Victorville provide animal control services to the community. The only feasible method that the City has of ensuring animals have been vaccinated against rabies is to require licenses.
