Thank you for visiting our web site, it shows your interest in our community. As a former high school mathematics teacher nothing excites me more than providing helpful information and encouraging individuals to reach higher. It is an honor to serve as your Councilmember.

These are challenging times for the City of Victorville. My primary goal is to help create new jobs and new sources of revenue for our city; that is why I have supported our move into owning our own power plant. Starting with nothing just five years ago, we are now revenue positive over operational cost.

I have great expectations for this City. Today, our population is exceeding 100,000. While many people view growth as bringing new problems to our city, I view growth as opportunity. We have the opportunity to shape our future to ensure Victorville provides its residents the best the High Desert has to offer.

While you may see the physical evidence of building all around Victorville, rest assured that your city leaders are committed to building the necessary framework to sustain a quality community. That means we are adding new police officers and code enforcement to our ranks as well as building new fire stations. We’re also adding parks and are planning a new state-of-the-art library for our community. And this is just the beginning.

Our efforts, however, are just one part of the equation. The key factor in this mathematical equation is you. We need a committed community willing to volunteer for pro-active police programs, neighborhood watch, serve on committees, and voice concerns and suggestions.

About Mayor Pro Tem Rothschild

Mike Rothschild was elected to his sixth term on the Victorville City Council in November 2008, during which time he previously served as Mayor from December 1999 through November 2002. He served his first term on the City Council from 1984 to 1988, and served as Mayor Pro Tem from 1994 to 1996.

Mr. Rothschild is a retired mathematics teacher. As a decorated U.S. Navy Pilot, with over 100 combat missions in Vietnam. He has also worked as a project engineer at Lockheed and a title searcher for First American Title Company.

Recently, Mr. Rothschild was awarded with the Lifetime Service Award from the Victorville African American Chamber of Commerce 2008.
Mr. Rothschild is an involved member of the community and has served on many boards including:

Vice President - Victor Valley Teachers Association
Vice President - Businesses of Victor Valley Against Crime
Board member - Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District Board, and was its first Chairman from 1993-1996
Former Board member - San Bernardino County Transportation (SANBAG) Board
Victor Valley Community Hospital Foundation Board

Mr. Rothschild sponsored Senate Bill 1416 (air credits transfer) and Assembly Bill 421 (new air basin) legislation. As a member of the City Council, Mr. Rothschild wrote the City’s first anti-graffiti ordinance, the current Council spending limit policy, and the landscaping ordinance for apartments in Victorville. Rothschild and his wife Jean are long time Victorville residents.
